Brotherhood Presents
BROTHERHOOD
The Brotherhood of Touro Synagogue is the men’s organization at Touro. We are affiliated with the Men of Reform Judaism, and the goal of our membership to serve Jewish men, Reform Judaism, and our local congregation.
The Brotherhood has a long history at Touro and was first formed as the Young Men’s Club in 1921, before changing its name to the Brotherhood in September 1927 under the leadership of Dr. Isidore Cohn, when it opened its membership to men of all ages.
Some of our ongoing work includes:
- Feeding the homeless on Saturday nights through our work with the Desmond project
- Ushering for High Holidays and Jazz Fest Shabbat
- Sponsoring the SSL softball team
- Providing someone to lead services monthly at Woldenberg
- Hosting the annual Beit Cafe on the opening day of religious school
As part of a much larger national organization, we are also involved with their national programs, which include a Men’s health initiative, the Jewish Chautauqua Society (provides funding and scholars for interfaith education), and the Reform on Campus programs (provides funding for events and programs at college campuses around the country, so our kids can have a positive Reform Jewish experience while away from home).
