Sisterhood

Sisterhood is the collective presence, voice and strength of the women of Touro Synagogue. It is where women can meet, bond and work together for the benefit of our Synagogue, our community, and one another. Our goal is to be a dynamic organization that changes according to the needs of those we serve while remaining true to the mission of WRJ, Women of Reform Judaism. If you are interested in learning more about Sisterhood or would like to become a member of this vital organization please feel free to contact me by email at sjwinnola@att.net.

Or Ami Award

Touro Sisterhood has received a Silver Or Ami award from the WRJ for the program, “Bullying: A Critical Issue.” The Or Ami “Light Of My People” awards  excellence in sisterhood programming and honors sisterhoods undertaking unusual and significant social justice programs, community service, or educational projects.   Touro’s award winning program, co-sponsored with Touro’s Social Action and LGBTQ initiatives, will be honored at the WRJ’s 48th Assembly in Washington, DC in mid December.

Book Club
Under the auspices of the Touro Synagogue Sisterhood, a book-discussion group meets five times a year and is open to all women in the greater New Orleans community, whether Jewish or not. The informal discussions are led by volunteers from within the group on a rotating basis. We meet in the Mautner Learning Center at Touro Synagogue on the last Monday of August, October, January, March, and May from 10:30 a.m. until noon. October’s selection is The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak. This and all other book club selections are available at the Touro Judaica Shop at a 20% discount.
