Facilities Rental
- 1. Touro Synagogue facilities may be reserved by members of the congregation and approved non-members. Reservations will be accepted provided they do not conflict with scheduled activities and programs of the congregation and its facilities.
- 2. Congregational functions and worships will have priority for any date or room up to 6 months for non-member events and 12 months for weddings, regardless of completion of Use of Facility form or reservation status.
- 3. People and organizations must agree to the following conditions to reserve Touro facilities.
a. To be governed by all house rules and any special requirements that the synagogue Executive Director or an authorized officer of the congregation may establish.
b. To make any required reimbursements before the meeting or event, as outlined in the signed agreement.
c. To be fully responsible for all loss and/or damage to any property of the congregation, its equipment or furnishings, including loss and/or damage caused by individuals or groups that you hire such as caterers, dj’s or bands.
d. To place no decorations, sign or tags on the walls, furniture or other property without specific approval by the Executive Director.
e. Congregational needs will govern the placement of any dance floor at all times. Parties must agree to accept floor placement at all times.
f. All equipment, which is brought in by outside organizations or caterers for a meeting or function, must be removed by them within 48 hours of the event date.
g. Food served at functions must be under the control of a caterer approved by the congregation and responsible to the Executive Director or our custodial staff. Exception to this guideline must be approved by the Executive Director and special arrangements as to non-catered food service must be made sufficiently before the occasion. THE TOURO SYNAGOGUE STAFF IS NOT AVAILABLE TO SERVE AS WAITERS, BARTENDERS OR OTHER PARTY PERSONNEL.
h. Deliveries will not be allowed during times that will interfere with the conduct of Religious School, religious services or any activities of the congregation. Deliveries are to be made in advance of the affair.
i. All events incur a $45/hr. custodial reimbursement charge. This charge covers a maintenance supervisory presence during the event and set-up and clean up cost for the event. Please include one hour prior to the event time and one hour after the conclusion of the event when estimating the custodial reimbursement charge. The custodian does not replace catering assistance and is not responsible for busing tables washing dishes or cleaning of the kitchen. This cost is subject to change at the discretion of the Board of Trustees.
j. All service providers working at Touro Synagogue must have specific amounts of product insurance, liability insurance and worker’s compensation. The service provider must submit to the congregation their certificate of insurance before being allowed access to the premises. The caterer and/or the applicant will be required to indemnify the congregation for any breakage or damage to kitchen equipment, supplies or facilities. Caterers are expected to abide by all regulations as published.
k. The time of any social function is limited to five (5) consecutive hours. All functions must conclude by 1:00am. Any exception to this rule must be approved, in writing, by the Executive Director at least three weeks prior to the function. An additional fee may be charged for additional time.
l. The reservation of Touro’s facility for weddings includes the use of the facility for rehearsal. All arrangements concerning the wedding ritual must be planned and approved by the Rabbi. Touro does not provide wedding planning services.
m. Cancellations must be made by the person or organization reserving the facilities not later than 120 days prior to the date. Failure to do so will result in the forfeit of the entire deposit.
n. All exit doors must be left free and unobstructed. No tables, decorations or flowers shall be placed in front of doors or stairways.
o. The Congregation cannot be responsible for wearing apparel or property of any kind brought into the building.
p. In order to maintain the goodwill between Touro Synagogue and its neighbors the Congregation requests your cooperation in maintaining proper decorum when on or adjacent to Synagogue premises. You are responsible for making sure your and your guests enter and leave the premises in a quiet and orderly fashion.
q. Persons or organizations using Congregation facilities shall not advertise these events in newspapers, on posters or through the mail or any other medium without advance approval from the Executive Director.
r. Any event being held or ending after nightfall and/or having more than 50 people in attendance must engage NOPD security, at your cost, in quantities determined by the Board of Trustees and Executive Director. These quantities have been determined by the Board of Trustees to be no less than one NOPD officer per 100 guests attending events held on the premises.
s. Any and all security arrangements whether required or requested shall be arranged through Touro Synagogue and will be reimbursable at a rate of $160 per officer. This covers the first 4 hours. A rate of $40/hr. will be charged for subsequent hours. This charge is required for each N.O.P.D. officer present.
- 4. Bar/Bat Mitzvah families should purchase and deliver or have their caterer deliver a Challah for Saturday morning worship. If one is not provided, the synagogue will provide one at a charge of $15.
PLEASE ATTEST THAT YOU HAVE READ THESE RULES AND WILL ABIDE BY THEM AND CAUSE YOUR GUESTS AND THOSE EMPLOYED BY YOU TO ABIDE BY THEM. SIGN THE CONTRACT FOR USE OF FACILITIES TO CONFIRM.
