Mitzvah and Caring
Mitzvah & Caring
Mitzvah & Caring, a branch of Social Justice, is dedicated to making Touro Synagogue and New Orleans a kinder, gentler, and more inviting place to be, by showing our fellow congregants a little extra bit of attention when they need it most.
Touro is a congregation and a community. But in a large community like ours, it isn’t always easy to keep in touch. Help us connect with you, your immediate family, and your friends, by letting us know if there is a birth, death, illness or other event. We are here to help you celebrate or cope.
- We can provide congratulations for births.
- We can provide condolences for bereavements.
- We plant a tree in Israel with the Jewish National Fund to commemorate the passing of a family member, and send notification to his/her family members.
- We can advise you concerning services provided locally, such as counseling with Jewish Family Service.
- We have members available to visit the homebound, and make hospital visits.
- We have members available to attend, cook for, or lead shiva minyans (services at your home during the week following the loss of a loved one).
For more information, contact Julie Schwartz 504-491-3810 or dajumaje@cox.net.
We will be happy to provide these services to you or your loved ones, but cannot do so unless we hear from you.
Mitzvah & Caring would appreciate your input. Should you wish to join us, even if you can share only a small amount of your time, please call or email Julie Schwartz at 504-491-3810; dajumaje@cox.net. Men and women of every age group are welcome.
